Back when I had all my teeth, I role-played Cyclops in this alternate-universe setting. I used Jared Leto (now of 30 Seconds to Mar fame) was the celebrity avatar. What I made different with him was that he was a killer and carried around a metal suitcase full of thousands. I played it over at deadjournals, which I recently found was now defunct.

I spent a good portion of my early college years playing those X-RPGs and Final Fantasy XI. I remember quitting when Final Fantasy went up in price to five dollars. That was too much for me. Can you imagine that? An online game for just five dollars a month! That you connected with a modem for!

My Cyclops had odd adventures in this setting but did eventually meet a few core characters such as having a rope-using romance with an Emma Frost Chloë Sevigny. The core differential with my take on Scott was that it was Alex and not him who got bopped on the head. That and the setting was in a No-Xavier world. His lust for killing just a trickle down effect of all that power (since he never had to fear his eyes)... pointing him eventually as the Red King of the Hellfire Club.

The  above piece is from :iconbarfast: and it has brought up a lot of voices in my head. Usually Wisdom (who I played in that setting as a vocalist in a band called Black Air [the government agency that Wisdom worked for when introduced] along with drummer Cully [his deceased partner]) is the only one that pesters me now-and-then. It's hard to keep those role-playing characters silenced forever but, alas, I'm a father now. No time for all that.

I'm in a contest: [link]

I'd love your support.

So we've all been on the net for almost twenty years. Who did you play back in the days of text? Do you have any fan-favorites? Whether it be chatrooms or message boards.

Tell me. I'm curious.

Ah, this brings back nostalgic memories of a message board RPG I used to play in. Fun times. Never was able to get back into the spirit of playing though. =/

Whats funny is that I was never that great a roleplayer or character creator, and as I understand it was hated by the majority of folks who also played there, but even so I had a lot of fun with it.

I really wish I could get back into another group like it. :(

I haven't been playing that long online with RPs but am active in text only plays on IRC and some other chat locations. I don't do the whole '3 D' thing like Second Life....

Often what I play as is the characters in my galleries...plus a few extras that haven't been drawn yet.

I was in a Men in Black group that began using Avatar Worlds. A pre-Second Life thing. You more or less was given a world and you built a city or whatever on it. Then we took our Dungeons and Dragons-like play (game master, etc) of Men in Black and played it in a 3D world. We only did it a handful of times but it was really fun. It didn't have the effects or weapons or anything or really ANYTHING like Second Life... but I could see the appeal.

Then again, I'm talking 1998. We all got old, didn't we?

I started online play in about 2000 - 2001. Text based HTML website, with an adult theme that I won't mention here (Note me if you want to know). I then got started into the random RP (Non structured play as I call it) with other furs and like minded people in about early 2003. Started my own IRC channel that's semi RP in July 2003, it's still up.

The only thing I kinda want to RP is 'The DragonRiders of Pern'... However, I hate forum RPs. I like direct interaction of chat-rooms. Finding a Pern based RP that isn't super strict for a chat-room, muck-client or even IRC channel base is very hard.

I tried Second Life and hated it... mostly cause everyone I met flamed me cause I could not build or script. I also never liked the video aspect of play really. To me, text RP tends to paint a much better picture then what I can sometimes see with my own eyes on a screen. Didn't help that anytime I got involved in some RP club, it would close within a week or two.

Prepare to be assaulted with more information than you asked for.

Still RPing though less frequently than I used to. My RPing history is a long and sometimes embarrassing one. :/

It started in the Yahoo anime chat rooms, back before you were required to be 18. I mostly played OCs, and from there I made a few buddies who I had ongoing RPs with. One lasted three years on the same damn story. I'm pretty sure those characters were killed and brought back to life at least twice. >.O
Broke off from RPing for a while, and then joined up on a Harry Potter Durmstrang site. Also OCs, one of them a werewolf aspiring to be an alchemy professor. It was a good run, not too much drama.
Tried my hand at running my own forum for a while. It was a Devil May Cry RP, and it lasted for a good while. I found out I'm a better mod than admin--in fact I'm "that mod," the asshole who sticks to the rules ans isn't afraid of pissing someone off.
Then I played an adult earthbender who had never had a master on an Avatar site. Through that I found a Naruto RP, and quickly was promoted to a mod. Say what you will about Naruto (and trust me, I've said it myself), but in a well-modded forum where power-playing is monitored it's hella fun to RP.

There have been a few more here and there. The group I've been involved with over the past few years has been a DMC forum, that's moved from forum to forum. It's creator also made a "Squeenix Academy" -- in which we could play any character owned by Squeenix (and OCs that could exist in those worlds) in an Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters type setting. It was a fun concept, and I had a lot of good times there. My character list was HUGE and included Riza Hawkeye (FMA), Fuujin (in her Kingdom Hearts form), Hanekoma (The World Ends With You), Reno (FFVII), and my first incarnation of Fortitude, who was in this RP an FMA-style homunculus. She's changed a lot over the years. XD

Latest RP is in a futuristic setting, complete with an Orwellian government. I've ported in Kestrel from Splinter Cell, with some extra PTSD. He's fun. XD

I'm quite jealous on many levels. In another life, right now I'd be demanding contact names.

"Back in the day"? Pfft. Still doing it, usually on LJ. ;) Northstar is the perennial favorite and most of the others have been OCs.

Someone needs to be out there putting his voice in those storylines. I once thought the same of myself and Wisdom. You're doing the right thing.
